Hey all,
I thought I would write a quick review of a film called 'Black Narcissus' which was released back in 1947, with a series remake created by Netflix as an adaptation of the 1939 novel originally by Rumer Godden. The cast includes Gemma Arterton, Aisling Franciosi and Nila Aalia among others. The description of the mini series states that 'A group of nuns face challenges in the hostile environment of a remote old Himalayan palace that they wish to make a convent'.

I decided to watch the original film as a 'spur of the moment' as it was shown on television and I had nothing else to do during the many days of lockdown. From beginning to end, the storyline is quite intense, and shows the selection of nuns chosen to create a convent, which included making a school for the children and a church for people to pray, all in one location. They are joined by various characters along the way, including Mr Dean who tries to help them with their convent, but ends up wanting to become romantic with some of the nuns. We also see a 17 year old girl, without parents, who becomes a cleaner and a Prince who has a planned schedule of lessons he wants to be taught including Maths and Geography - but suddenly both of these characters disappear with eachother.
Towards the end of the film, there is a dramatic change in mood as some of the nuns begin behaving differently and not everything ends well for everyone...
For those that haven't seen it, it is definitely a great watch and although I wasn't around at the time of its release, it definitely has an interesting storyline which shows what being a nun was like back in the olden days!
