Billie Eilish & ROSALIA 'Lo Vas A Olvidar' - Music Video Review

Updated: Apr 8, 2023

Hey all,

This music video review is of Billie Eilish's new track alongside Spanish singer/songwriter ROSALIA. The single is called 'Lo Vas A Olvidar' and the other reason I wanted to listen to it, was to see if Billie sings in Spanish...and she did, and I love it! SO without further delay, here's my review!

At the beginning of the music video there is an introduction shot of Billie as a dark silhouette which quickly transitions into ROSALIA who is laying on the ground in a blue crop top and trouser matching set. Throughout the entire music video, the shots transition from one artist to the other - almost like a video montage which is actually really cool to watch, and each of them have their time looking into the camera to bring the vocals to life.

One of the things I noticed was that within about a minute of the music video starting, there seems to be a dramatic change in speed of the clips, and there seems to be wind coming in from somwhere as their hair is going crazy. I like the variation of shots here, both fast and slow, close up and quite far away - capturing the natural light from above (wherever that may be from). Some of the first lyrics I managed to listen out for were 'can you let it go, you're going to forget it' which both of them multiple times before moving onto the next set of vocals. I think the meaning behind these lyrics is something to do with a relationship or a friendship, and that they're going to forget any emotions or connection that had with either of these girls, so it's better to forget about it now than have it as a thought inside their mind.

The best part of this music video was when Billie began singing in Spanish, as this is something I've not heard before, and she then goes on to sing again in English; 'tell me if we still have something in common' to potentially solidify a potential relationship, or whether to give up and move onto somebody else instead. Due to ROSALIA having a higher singing voice and Billie showing off her low vocals, the blend of their voices works really well together, and towards the end of the video there is another growth of the wind, extreme flashing lights and the music video seems quite mysterious and dark throughout - especially when the spotlight is on Billie's black and green hair, that everybody can recognise her for from almost a mile away! 'Love can't be measured with a firm step' is one of the next lyrics that is sang and this could simply mean that it takes more than doing one thing right, to prove that you love somebody...as it's about taking 'multiple steps' or maybe even little steps in order to convey your emotions easily to somebody else. The final lyrics that Billie sings towards the end of the song are 'if I wasn't important, why would you waste all your poison?' which is a rhetorical question, but also could signify that poison could be nasty words, insults or any other negative things that somebody can do...so what's the point of being nasty to somebody if they're not important...and by giving them that negative attention, it shows that you appreciate them in one way or another, as ordinary people would just leave the situationa and move on with their lives.
