American Idol's Nia Renée has already shared original music including a song named 'High Standards'

Updated: Apr 8, 2023

Hey everyone!

For people that watch American Idol, you will not have forgotten about 17 year old Nia Renée, the 'Queen of soul' as described by Katy Perry after her first audition! I decided to do a little online search, and she has currently released 2 music videos with original lyrics, and I thought I would review both of them in this post! To watch her American Idol audition, the link is below:

The first song that I reviewed was a song called 'All Lost On Love' which seems to be a song that explains she put love before her ambitions and dreams, and using the word 'lost' implies that the love she was seeking, wasn't worthwhile in the end. In the music video there is an introduction shot of a BMW driving towards a house, with a young male getting out of the car. It seems that Nia's parents question the young man to ask who he is and how he met their daughter, which causes some disagreements to begin with. Some of Nia's lyrics in the song include 'what you did, it should have broke me...but I will never be broken' which imply that she is a confident and brave young woman, and although she may have been through a bad experience, it's not going to stop her from achieving the things that she wants to, and also explains that love isn't the only thing that people can look forward to in their futures.

The second song is called 'High Standards' which Nia released on 27th August 2020! Throughout the song, all of the lyrics seem to explain that she's 'a girl with really high standards' and that she's looking for a guy with really high standards too. In the song she gives examples of how a guy can treat her right, including showing her off, cooking her dinner, watching a movie with her or taking her dancing - and she also explains that it doesn't need to be anything fancy, which shows that she's more interested in just spending time with the guy, rather than thinking of crazy things to do together. In the video there are also some short dance routines with some of her friends on a basketball court, and I love her white jacket and the way that she styled her hair in this particular shot! Other lyrics that she sings include 'I got too much going on to take chances' which could have forseen that she was going to be applying or appearing on American Idol, or that she has a lot of things she wants to achieve in life, so she doesn't want to be with somebody half-heartedly. One of the lyrics I decided to also write down was when she sang 'don't be shy, I'm real goofy' which could explain that although she has really high standards, she does have a good personality and is able to not take herself too serioiusly all the time!

It's nice to see the transition of people before television, throughout their experience on a show, and then seeing what they get upto after they've been on television and been able to increase their reputation online! Remember Nia's name, because I'm sure she'll be signed once she leaves American Idol! She's so young, she's got such a great singing voice, and I'm glad that my Nan sent me an email telling me to watch her, because I think she is definitely going to be a popular voice of the future!
