Hello!
The 6th studio album from the girls has finally been released! It was released on 6th November 2020, but there were no collaborations on the album! It'll be interesting to see how the songs all sound, so let's get straight on with it?
1 - 'Break Up Song'
The first single on the album is about the four girls coming together, singing another break up anthem to try and forget about the boys that have messed them around, admitting that they 'will do anything to get you off my mind'. I'm obviously going to be bias because I LOVE Little Mix, and have appreciated them as singers, performers, feminists and dancers and now television judges since 2011, but this was a great song to start off the LM6 era before their 'Confetti' tour in 2021!
2 - 'Holiday'
SO, song number two on the album is the complete reverse of song one. I believe this song is all about praising some lucky guys who the girls have fallen in love with; with lines including 'can you lay down', 'you're turning me on' and 'you give it to me like no other guy' - naughty naughty Jade! If you've not watched the video, the girls are dressed up as sexy mermaids. It's a great music video and the outfits are amazing...just like the song!
3 - 'Sweet Melody'
The third song on the album is called Sweet Melody which I have actually only heard once, as they performed it on the first series of their reality show Little Mix - The Search. One of the key lyrics in the song is 'The day he did me wrong, the song couldn't go on and on'; hinting at one of their relationships with a previous boyfriend, and clearly stating that it was going really well, but one bad move meant that the 'tune of love' had to end. I really like the slow singing during the verses with a fast dance beat on the chorus; bringing all four of their beautiful vocals together.
4 - 'Confetti'
The title of the album 'Confetti' was the next song on the album. It began with sexy singing from Jesy and Leigh Anne before the first drop of the chorus which highlighted about their dreams coming true, comparing them to VIP's and letting 'good things in their life rain on them like Confetti' - something I hope for in my own life too. Where's my Confeffi?!? I think instead of focusing on the negative aspects of life, they're singing about the great things they have either already achieved or things that they should be looking forward to in the future!
5 - 'Happiness'
I believe this is a song about self love and self positivity, as the some of the lyrics in this song include 'being happy' and 'being with somebody just helped fill the lonliness'. Both Perrie and Jade's individual verses in the song feature some incredibly speedy ad libs which help bring the song together really beautifully...similar to those noises that Ariana Grande makes in her own singles. Is there a collaboration that will eventually be released by the girls and Ari? Let's hope and pray. I also believe that the background meaning behind the song is that once the girls were on their own, that's when they became the happiest!
6 - 'Not A Pop Song'
With the title of this song being called 'Not A Pop Song', it's clear that the song wouldn't be your 'standard pop song'. In the opening lyrics, they threw shade at Simon Cowell, stating that they didn't 'do what Simon Says' and instead of continuing to sing songs about falling in love or parties; they decided to sing songs about breakups and lonely nights instead...clearly wanted to get away from that standard type of 'pop song' just to try and fit in with the trends; but instead being relatable to their fans or those people who are potentially going through difficult times! I liked this one!
7 - 'Nothing But My Feelings'
I'm this song is a teaser song for the guys that they are in love with; stating that they are 'sitting there with nothing but their feelings'. This softly sung song with some ad lib background vocals and sounds is a really nice sound to listen to! Through each of the verses, there is a slight speed change of the singing which alters the song from the standard 'verse chorus verse chorus' etc! I think I'm in my feelings now...
8 - 'Gloves Up'
At the beginning of this song, I thought that this song would have a similar sound to that of 'Salute', a female empowerment song, and I think I was right! I think by the words 'Gloves Up', they want to stand up and fight for what they believe in; with their 'eyes on the prize' which could just be relating to success, or fighting against the negativity and critisicm they receive from the media. I'm still surprised that people in 2020 are still leaving negative comments and reviews on people. Surely, they should be spending time writing positive content and writing about people they are interested in? You don't like somebody? Ignore it.
9 - 'A Mess' (Happy 4 U)
Song number 9 on the album. I literally listen to all of the songs in a row, and knowing that we're nearly at the end of the 'listening concert', I'm actually really sad, but it's fine, I've added the songs into my playlist! This is another one of those songs where the girls are speaking about how sad they are about one of their relationships; stating that if they 'can't be happy with you, they'll be hapy for you'...and although they admit they're happy, it's difficult for them to be able to not have any feelings at all, which is normal? Once you see somebody you like move on with somebody else, it's difficult to hide your feelings...but I think the girls are powerful and strong minded enough to wish the new girl well, and have no 'hard feelings'!
10 - 'My Love Won't Let You Down'
Oh...this is the first slow ballad on the album. I've not heard an emotional song from the girls in a while, well, until this song! In the song they sing the words 'I'll always be there for you, no matter what you're going through', so I'm not sure if this is a tribute song to somebody in their lives who is going through a difficult time, or if it's aimed at some of their previous lovers, who can still go to them, if they just need somebody to talk to or hang out with! Perrie and Leigh Anne finished the song, each saying the name of the song, individually...before it came to a swift close! Leigh Anne's solo vocals in this song were also pretty on point!
11 - 'Rendezvous'
Before listening to the song, I had to understand what the word meant...in simple it's just a time and place to meet somebody, somewhere. In this song it seems like the girls are planning a 1 on 1 date with a lucky boy; to which Jade's lyrics state 'I can pull up at your driveway and we can go anywhere...there's nothing I won't do'! It seemed to be quite a sexual song, but I'm not sure what else I could say...but instead of analysing the song, I was thinking of ways they could approach the music video for this song!
12 - 'If You Want My Love'
In this very open minded song, the girls discuss how a man can get their love in more than just pleasure. Jesy's vocals include the sentence, 'prove you can treat me like a b*tch you want to treasure' and that they know the guy can live upto their expectations, but they just have to work hard, as what they're doing is 'not enough' (Similar song title to a previous Little Mix single lol)...
13 - 'Breathe'
The thirteenth and final song on the album is called Breathe, which began with what sounded like church bells...it's almost like they're celebrating Christmas a month early! The song is a sad love song where they sing about how they are unable to live without the person that was there previously including the space in the bed, making it difficult for them to breathe. Other lyrics 'I can't erase your number' and 'I'm still sleeping in your jumper' which are signs of missing somebody so much that you don't want to erase them fully from your memory (or your phone memory), but sometimes it's better just to forget and move on, otherwise those negative thoughts will continue to surround you...as the girls mention, in the form of a figure or ghost that remains...
I absolutely loved all of the songs on this album, but I must admit that the girls are definitely entering new territory with some of the singles on this album, including 'Sweet Melody', 'Happiness', 'Not A Pop Song' and 'My Love Won't Let You Down' which all bring a different side of the girls out, both through their singing style but also the emotions behind the lyrics! I think what would be REALLY good on a future album, is some rapping from Leigh Anne which we heard many years ago, or a collaboration with some new and upcoming artists which include Sam Fender, Celeste, Mabel, Lewis Capaldi or even some of the ex One Direction boys...who knows!
Alright, that's all for this post, I'm sure I'll be back soon! (Oh, and don't forget Little Mix - The Search THE FINAL is on tonight!)
