Hey all!
Another music review, and this time it's another single from Spencer Sutherland! If you haven't seen my previous review then scroll down a bit and check it out! In this music video Spencer is seen at the beginning with a long sleeved orange jumper, with a blend of black and browns on both his outfit and the surrounding enrivonment. It looks like he is in a cafe, and he's also showcasing his longer hairstyle which he has probably grown over the national lockdowns, helping him to look even more attractive than he already did (You're welcome Spen!). I love the accessories to the outfit including the necklance and rings.
Some of the opening lyrics are 'You could stab my back and I wouldn't even know it' which could be directed at a previous lover or a person that could come across as two faced, saying one thing to him and something different to other people...which could signify the lack of trust in this friendship. In the music video, I like how he plays towards the camera showing emotion through simple hand gestures and movements. The venue he is in seems quite isolated and also has a vintage theme at the same time, with various shots through different items within the venue, using holes to create interesting angles. This is a style that is seen throughout the music video, with some shots making it appear to have 3 Spencer's singing a particular line, or shadows and ghostly figures taking over the shot.
I really like the use of natural lighting in this video, as it doesn't seem that there is much artificial lighting apart from what's in the setting, and I also like how some sections of the music video are shot in one take (or that's the impression by looking at the constant movements without too much cutting and snipping from one outfit change to the next). One of the outfits towards the end of the music video sees him in a very bright red and white jacket with a white t shirt to compliment - and the top of the shirt has an outer layer of flowers which is a nice touch!
Other lyrics in the song include 'I see that look on your face, looking at me like someone you hate' which could identify that there is some sort of tension between Spencer and another individual, with the idea that he might feel as if he's done something wrong due to somebody else's weird facial expressions or body moments towards him. He goes on to say 'I've been here once or twice, and I'm so f*cking bored of it' which could further imply that he might have been in difficult situations like this before, and instead of being messed around, he just wants to be in a relationship with somebody who can treat him right, not give him false hope...and by the sounds of it, not look at him weirdly! To compliment some of the lyrics, there are some really cool backing vocals and the addition of an electric guitar to give the song a little bit of an edge so I don't have any complaints with the music video, the artist or the song!
