I decided to write a quick little blog post about LinkedIn and why I believe you should definitely use this social media platform in order to boost your chances of employment. I like to compare LinkedIn to Facebook, but instead of using it to share your funny moments, selfies from nights out or to ‘stalk your friends’, it is an online portfolio to showcase the work you have done.
This can include anything from modelling, presenting, being a social media influencer/mentor, students who just want to upload evidence of their work experience, skills, previous employers and the course that they are currently studying or professionals who just want to keep a record of their working life.
I actually had a LinkedIn account whilst I was at Secondary School, but never thought of using it to upload my work experience, as at that point, I didn’t have any professional industry work and was just a student. Since starting University and going through my journey, I found have LinkedIn as an incredibly helpful tool to connect with other creative people, students from all around the country as well as being able to upload and explain the work I have done, without having 100’s of questions as to how I completed it.
My LinkedIn profile is https://www.linkedin.com/in/isthatbrandon/ and I am constantly uploading more and more information and experience as the months go on. I hope that with my personal blog, my LinkedIn profile and the range of different media types that I cover online, will help me to find and secure several jobs within the media industry in the future!
