Science Experiment volunteer - Megan Hills

Updated: Apr 28, 2023

Back in August, I volunteered to help out one of my friends with a little science experiment that she was hosting. I believe she needed at least 10 people to take part in the project for it to be accurate. For the test I had to wear an electronic headset which would record my brain waves and decide how quickly my brain works. In terms of the actual experiments, I firstly had an ear test (with an otoscope) to see how my levels of hearing are. (Apparently my hearing is above average which is always a good achievement to have). If one of your senses is 'below average' or a 'bit weak' then another one of your senses is double as good...and I wear contact lenses so this is pretty accurate.

The next thing I had to do was memorise a passage of information (which I had to listen to on a tape). The first time I was told to just listen to the passage and then I had to answer a variety of questions based on what I had heard. Then, I did the same thing again but had to try and distract myself by completing another task. I was told to hold two clips which were able to grab things, and manouevre a piece of string through a variety of different holes (whilst still trying to listen to the second half of the passage). I managed to answer most of the questions correctly so I technically 'passed' the test.
