Several months ago back in 2018, I saw several posts on the NTU Facebook pages saying that they had a vlogging opportunity available, and were looking for someone to get involved. Initially, I knew nothing about it until a few of my friends tagged me in the post, and once I read through the details it sounded right up my street. I had to make a video of my night out; from the getting ready stage, any pre drinks, travelling to the club and finally having some footage within the City SU (and including some content of Kristian Nairn a.k.a ‘Hodor’ from Game of Thrones).
I’ve NEVER seen the Game of Thrones and I didn’t even know who Hodor was, so I did some research so I knew who I actually supposed to get some footage of (bit awkward if I film the wrong dude) and the vlog turned out pretty cool! I’ve just attached some screen shots to this blog post so you can see some of the conversation between myself and Jordan Foster – who I hadn’t met in real life before the event, and accidentally bumped into him whilst on a night out several weeks after at the student union. It was a little bit awkward to say the least, and I was a little bit drunk so I’m not exactly sure what we spoke about during our brief moment of interaction.
But yeah, that was just a quick little task I worked on for the University, and they made a little promotional video which they published on the NTU Facebook page! It was a shock when I initially watched it back, but I was proud of what I made in such a small amount of time. Not going to lie, it was very awkward filming in a club where everyone around you is getting drunj, and I’m just a ‘sober cameraman’ with my expensive camera trying to get footage for a vlog aha!
The Vlog:
I’ll update you guys of any other opportunities that I am able to get involved with, but 100% if you are at University, use your skills to your advantage and try to take part in as many events/activities as possible and message the social media teams for other opportunities that they might have!!
In 2018, I received a message from a lady who worked on the marketing team for NTU saying that they wanted to interview more students who seem 'interesting' and would be interested in doing takeovers on the NTU Instagram. On 29th November 2018, we discussed about how we could include more vlogging/blogging into the marketing projects.
As you can see from the above screenshots, I was shared on the NTU Twitter and Instagram and the caption was 'Second year media student Brandon will be taking over our account and showing you a day in his life at NTU' - which was the second takeover that I did.
Other NTU features include:
-Having a student profile on the University website
-Social Officer for NTU Pride society
-Featured in the prospectus for new students
-Lead a variety of projects with Trent TV
