Let's talk about: Men and Mental Health

Updated: Mar 3

I was featured on a blog post all about mental health and gave a male's point of view on the matter!

Brandon also responded to my Tweet and he shared his thoughts on the subject as well as discussing his own personal experience:

'Personally, I think it’s more difficult for guys to open up and speak about their mental health issues as there has been a massive stigma that ‘men need to be brave, confident and can’t have emotions’ which is such a closed way to think about something like mental health. I think a lot of teenagers, males in particular, are going through dark times and don’t want to open up to their family or friends because they won’t understand.

I think it is a lot to do with stereotypes and what we see in the media on a day to day basis, and although there are support options out there, men in particular find it difficult to come to terms with having mental illnesses such as depression or anxiety and that people will think they’re just making an excuse not to do something'
