Hey all!
By now I am sure everybody is aware of the COVID pandemic and the unfortunate 100,000+ deaths that have occured in the United Kingdom so far, and the numbers will probably continue to rise...but with the government setting out new rules and restrictions, we might be able to eventually get out of this mess, and back to an ordinary world. I saw an advertisement at the end of a Sky News broadcast, asking people to be part of a virtual audience to be part of a programme called 'COVID Crisis: Learning The Lessons' and I decided to get in contact, giving my personal contact details and submitting my question which was whether the government had any plans or ideas for how to support students and graduates in terms of mental health, their online studies, lack of 'University experience' and a lot of students are still paying rent - for accommodation that they are not living in.
Here are the email communications I had with the Output Producer Kirsty Hickey and Managing Editor Louise Hastings (who I've requested to connect with on LinkedIn...obviously), and although I wasn't able to ask my question live on air, I'm glad I was one of the 100 people chosen to be in the audience. Above, you can also see some of the rules and information that was given to us before the show was to go live. It was on from 8pm to 9pm, hosted by Sophy Ridge; alongide panellists Nadhim Zahawi MP, the Vaccines Minister and Dr Susan Hopkins who was representing Public Health England.
Some of the topics covered throughout the show included;
(1) -Vaccine Passports, allowing people to travel to another country with the promise that they would have a vaccine at the other end
(2) -The vaccine itself, and how many members of the BAME community are weary about taking the shot
(3) -Whether locking the country down earlier would have made a difference
(4) -Whether care home deaths could have been prevented if measures were put in place sooner &
(5) -The discussion around schools and Universities and whether enough has been done, and is going to be done to help the future generations
Here's some screenshots I took from the show after it had aired on Sky News, along with a selfie I took whilst wearing my black and white 'going out' shirt...minus the going out part!
