Volunteering Experience - Assistant Tennis Coach and Temporary Teaching Assistant

Updated: Apr 8, 2023

Back in 2014, I volunteered as an assistant tennis coach at my local tennis club 'Hazelwood Sports Club' and spent 1-2 hours a week helping with some of the training sessions for the young children and the under 12's. It was very fun year and I met a lot of inspiring tennis players, but I was also able to build my confidence as I had never been in a position of authority before, and I was able to control the classes of the children while the main coaches were doing mini one on one sessions.

In terms of the actual sessions, I was sometimes left alone with a small group of children to practice a variety of different tennis shots or play a variety of tennis games to get them moving. I also led some of the warm up sessions or was used as the demonstration to show the children which exercise we were completing. My main tennis coaches were Rhys, Graham and Edward (Graham and Edward featured below); and they would sign off a form for me every week to confirm that I volunteered that work.
