3 Film Series' that I can recommend

Updated: Apr 8, 2023

Hey all!

It's been a while since I have written an opinion piece, but I thought I'd write a quick summary on 3 film series' that I can highly recommend - it would have been 4, but I've not watched '24' all the way to the end...think I got to Series 4/5 and then didn't continue watching it for some reason?!?!

The Hunger Games

I'm sure this is an obvious film series for people to have watched, with it's multiple films revolving around Katniss Everdeen, who is the chosen leader for Team 12...who were deemed the 'weakest'. Throughout the films she is seen trying to take care of her little sister, ends up finding love, and realising that 'The Hunger Games' is a massive game where all of the chosen young people have to fight eachother in order to win, but that means breaking up friendships and becoming enemies with people, as everyone is fighting for themselves. There's a mix of emotions that are felt throughout the different films, but for somebody that doesn't really watch films, even I would recommend the series!

SAW

If you're not into blood, seeing people die or films that see people in danger almost every 5 seconds, I wouldn't recommend you watching this series (unless you look on YouTube to see how the scenes were made; as it would then make it less scary)...This series is one of those that has incredibly confusing and ever-changing storylines, where the premise is a group of people who are trapped somewhere, and they have to put themselves or other people in danger in order for them to be set free. During one of the scenes, you see somebody who was taking part in one of the challenges, get a bag thrown over his head and removed from the back room...it turns out that the guy who has been making these civillians take part in all these challenges, 'recruited' one of the guys to be on his team and therefore giving him control to continue torturing these people. A variety of interesting scenes include people being hung, people being injected and therefore killed, and a playground themed ride where someone can either choose three people to kill, or save three people whilst having something go THROUGH his hand...Yes, it's gross, but the whole series was amazing and the acting was brilliant!

Black Summer

Let me make this clear; Black SUMMER, not Black MIRROR...I've not seen an episode of that! The basic understanding that I had from the first series was that a town got infested with zombie like creatures and in order for the people of the town to survive, they had to escape to what was known as 'the stadium'. Throughout the different episodes, we are introduced to different characters, some of which die and other who get themselves into unknown complications. The film in also shown in chronological order but switches between the past and present of the scenes; showing you a dead person and then how they died, or people fighting, and how they got into that situation for example...Overall it's a very thrilling first series for a show I initially knew nothing about - and both myself and Matt C, my friend who watched it with me, were both very entertained by every little aspect and detail from the colours, to the drama, to the acting by each of the cast and crew (Oh, and the sound effects were brilliant too!)...If you've not watched it yet, I would definitely recommend watching it, because in 2020, Series 2 is apparently going to be released on Netflix also.
